Our Programs

Land sustains us it is our original and most valuable natural resource.

Lasting conservation is about more than protecting land — it takes innovative tools, strong partnerships, and solutions tailored to the places and communities we serve. Across the country, The Conservation Fund advances programs that keep farms and forests working, strengthen local economies, restore freshwater systems, expand urban access to nature, and protect landscapes with deep cultural and ecological value. Together, these efforts deliver durable results for people and the lands they rely on.

Land Conservation

We have the resources and expertise to move quickly to secure at-risk land before it’s lost — shaping permanent conservation solutions that protect it forever.

Farms Fund

We protect at-risk farmland on the edges of fast growing metro areas before it’s lost. Our work advances a new generation of farmers who are growing fresh, nutritious food for their communities and beyond.

Working Forests

We secure and preserve large intact forests that are at risk of being broken up and developed — ensuring they continue to support wildlife, clean air and water, and local economies.

Activating the Natural Resource Economy

We work to preserve and expand the mutually beneficial relationship between rural communities and nature — helping create and sustain jobs in nature-based industries like recreation, forestry, agriculture, and clean energy.

Legacy Places

We are working with local communities and partners to identify and protect sites important to African American heritage and history.

Urban Conservation

We work across America to support healthy, vibrant cities through greenspace and other urban conservation efforts.

Freshwater Institute

We advance sustainable practices that create a robust aquaculture industry to help ensure everyone has access to high-quality, safe, and nutritious seafood.

Mitigation Solutions

We provide mitigation solutions that open the way for tomorrow’s economy while protecting high-priority wildlife habitat, clean water, and recreation areas.
