Action Alert: Email VA Governor to Save Oak Hill Today

URGENT: We need your help to urge Gov. Spanberger to add Oak Hill to the Virginia budget this week — otherwise a critical window to protect this treasure will close.

Oak Hill in Northern Virginia is a place of profound historical significance. The 1,200-acre estate centers on a well-preserved mansion — the only privately owned home of a presidential Founding Father — where President James Monroe wrote the Monroe Doctrine, a cornerstone of American foreign policy. The property also holds important stories of the enslaved African Americans and Indigenous peoples who lived and labored on this land.

The Conservation Fund has secured this property from being lost to development, but the work isn’t done. The House and Senate submitted their proposed budget to the Governor, but Oak Hill was not included. The Governor can rectify this by adding Oak Hill back into the budget and turn this landmark into a Virginia State Park — preserving its history, opening it to the public, and ensuring it remains part of Virginia’s story for generations.

If you are a Virginia resident, please take 2 minutes to email Gov. Spanberger and urge her to make Oak Hill Virginia’s newest state park. We’ve provided a draft email below, but we encourage you to edit the language to make your appeal more personal.
