Make Oak Hill a Virginia State Park

Will you take 2 minutes to help protect a critical piece of American history? Even if you don’t live in Virginia, your support can make a difference.

Oak Hill in Northern Virginia is a place of profound historical significance. The 1,200-acre estate centers on a well-preserved mansion — the only privately owned home of a Founding Father — where President James Monroe wrote the Monroe Doctrine, a cornerstone of American foreign policy. The property also holds important stories of the enslaved African Americans and Indigenous peoples who lived and labored on this land. The Conservation Fund has secured this property from being lost to development, but the work isn’t done.

Now is the moment to turn this landmark into a Virginia State Park — preserving its history, opening it to the public, and ensuring it remains part of Virginia’s story for generations to come. Gov. Spanberger’s Administration is following the legislative debate on Oak Hill closely and formulating its position. So, now is the perfect time to make your voice heard. The window of opportunity is open — but it won’t stay open for long.

Ask the General Assembly and Gov. Spanberger: Make Oak Hill Virginia’s newest state park.
