The Conservation Fund and the U.S. Forest Service have announced the purchase and protection of 229 acres near Shell Knob that will provide enhanced public access to the Piney Creek Wilderness. With funding from the federal Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), the conserved land along County Road 2190 offers an ideal site for a new, safer trailhead and added parking for hikers, horseback riders, hunters, photographers and other outdoor enthusiasts.

Conservation organizations, sportsmen’s groups, and outdoor recreation groups praise the U.S. Congress and the President for enacting the Fiscal Year 2018 omnibus spending bill, which includes permanent reauthorization of the Federal Land Transaction Facilitation Act (FLTFA). Expired since 2011, this successful land exchange program will once again increase recreational access to public lands, support economic development, consolidate land ownership, and conserve special places in western states.

ARLINGTON, Va. — Conservation organizations, sportsmen’s groups, and outdoor recreation groups applaud the House Natural Resources Committee for advancing legislation introduced by Chairman Rob Bishop (R-UT) to permanently reauthorize the Federal Land Transaction Facilitation Act (FLTFA) (H.R. 5133). Cosponsors include Representatives Scott Tipton (R-CO) and Greg Gianforte (R-MT). FLTFA is a modified land exchange program for the West that increases recreational access to public lands, supports economic development, and consolidates land ownership. The program is currently expired and unavailable.

The Conservation Fund announced the grant recipients for the 2017 Grant Program for Transporting Healthy Food. Twenty-one charitable organizations in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, West Virginia and Washington, D.C., will receive grants ranging from $5,000 to $10,000 to improve their capacity to store and safely deliver fresh, healthy food to their communities.
