Honoring Richard P. Mellon 1939 - 2020

Dick was born on May 19, 1939 and was the eldest son of the late Gen. Richard King Mellon and Constance Prosser Mellon—passionate conservationists who established the Pittsburgh-based, Richard King Mellon Foundation. Dick was an avid outdoorsman and conservationist who had an enduring love for the natural environment.

For more than three decades the Richard King Mellon Foundation has been at the forefront of conservation in America—supporting the protection of over 3.6 million acres of the more than 8 million acres The Conservation Fund has protected across the country. The scale of sustained generosity from the Foundation has helped make extraordinary strides toward protecting places central to our country’s unique outdoor legacy—from Civil War Battlefields, to our last large, intact working forests and the communities that rely upon them.

“The Conservation Fund is forever grateful for Dick’s conservation leadership and vision, which has benefited all Americans.”

- Larry Selzer, President of The Conservation Fund
