Help Save Atlanta’s Hidden Forest

In the heart of Buckhead, Atlanta, a 30-acre forest still stands — a rare stretch of mature hardwoods, scenic trails, and Nancy Creek winding through one of the city’s fastest-growing neighborhoods. But this land is at risk of being lost to development.

With your help, we can secure this land as a public nature preserve.

Once home to renowned artist Lucinda Bunnen, known to many as the Godmother of Southern Photography, this property inspired her art and legacy. After her passing in 2022, her beloved home and the surrounding woods went up for sale, putting this ecological and cultural treasure in jeopardy of subdivision.

In 2024, The Conservation Fund stepped in to protect it. With support from the City of Atlanta, we’ve already raised more than $11 million toward the $13.5 million needed to permanently safeguard the property and establish it as a public nature preserve. Now, less than $2 million remains to protect this one-of-a-kind forest forever.
