Communications Intern

We are seeking an intern to work with the Program Director and TCF Marketing and Communications team to enhance and expand effective communications, public relations and marketing initiatives through web, social and conventional earned media pathways. Assist staff with research, design and preparation of materials for annual and management reports, meetings and workshops, and client presentations.  Receive guests and visitors and provide follow-up.  This position is located in Shepherdstown, WV at our Freshwater Institute.

 Essential functions include but are not limited to:

  • Assist with roll-out of new web site; update, prepare and format content
  • Monitor blogs, forums and social networks to gain understanding of our current presence and identify opportunities for targeted stakeholder engagement
  • Develop media strategy and metrics to assess implementation
  • Work with professional staff on LinkedIn professional network utilization
  • Utilize Twitter feed for project and program outreach, expand impact
  • Create and apply project centered digital video and image content for web publication 
  • Develop traditional press and media releases and news briefs
  • Organize and curate academic, image and other publication files
  • Enhance internal coordination and communication of calendars and travel schedules

Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements: 

  • Preferred applicants should be pursuing an undergraduate degree in Communication and able to work 10 hours/week during the semester.
  • Demonstrate appropriate social media activity, forums, blogs, animation, video or website in a personal portfolio
    Excellent writing and interpersonal communications skills
  • Strong demonstrated user skills with digital media and office software platforms (MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite, Salsa Labs, WordPress, HTML, Twitter, Hoot Suite)
  • An interest in non-profit business models, land and water conservation, and technical writing skill is helpful
