Noticing there was still demand for local, naturally grown fruits and vegetables, the Montris approached NCIF with a plan; they wanted to expand Ten Hens Farm’s capacity by adding 4 additional hoophouses and a walk-in cooler. Hoophouses work by extending a farm’s growing season. Coolers allow farmers to store field grown products longer as well as harvest them on multiple days during the week, rather than the night before or morning of deliveries. Both these improvements help farms increase revenue and utilize fewer resources.

"The NCIF loan program provided us with the capital we needed to expand our farm business. With this loan we are able to better meet the market demand from the restaurants and farmers market customers we supply with more locally grown food 12 months of the year." — Adam Montri
