Our Role

In 2008, with 12 employees and revenues of less than $1 million, FLS turned to NCIF for working capital to fund its growing book of orders, as well as R&D for a solar farm on a former western North Carolina landfill. Alongside its flexible financing, NCIF helped the company identify a CFO to guide the company’s growth. In 2011, FLS was named America’s 46th fastest growing company by Inc. Magazine.  In 2015, FLS installed its one millionth solar panel, and was named fourth-largest solar developer in the country by Solar Power World magazine. They also reached over $100 million in revenue and employ 55 people.

Why This Project Matters

NCIF provides an alternative to traditional lending for entrepreneurs whose businesses are delivering results that go beyond revenue to also benefit communities, the economy and the environment. Businesses like FLS not only provide high-quality jobs in their community, but also have an enormous environmental impact.

“Without NCIF’s capital, we would never have been able to accomplish all that we have, and we continue to rely on the advice and perspective of the NCIF staff.” -- Co-Founder and Chairman Hardy LeGwin
