Community Development

From day one, we’ve known that good economics and good conservation go hand-in-hand.  That’s why our mission, and charter, includes both economic development and environmental preservation.

We strengthen underserved communities by financing and building capacity for small businesses and nonprofits that conventional lenders would not support. In areas like the rural Southeast, we’re making it possible for farmers, restaurant owners, renewable energy providers, whitewater guides and other entrepreneurs to grow while using natural resources sustainably.  

We can’t achieve our mission without partners of all kinds—including foundations, government, community-based organizations and community development financial institutions.
