CLN Hosts Two Major Events in 2009

BlueRidge.jpg

The Conservation Fund’s Conservation Leadership Network is proud to be hosting two major events in 2009.

Looking Beyond the Transportation Footprint

For the first time in its history the Transportation Research Board’s Environmental Analysis and Transportation committee’s summer meeting is being hosted by a non-governmental organization and is being held at the home of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, National Conservation Training Center (NCTC).

The theme of the meeting is Looking Beyond the Transportation Footprint: New Partners and New Scales. This event is designed to be highly interactive and will include discussion forums hosted by FHWA, ACoE, and FWS. Participants will engage in dialogue on issues such as:

  • how to incorporate large scale assessments (climate change) into project planning;
  • how to effectively plan the green and the grey as complementary systems; and
  • how to use the new FWS recovery crediting guidance.

In addition, the new leadership from various agencies will be invited to participate in a town hall meeting. This meeting is hosted by the Conservation Fund and sponsored by AASHTO, ACOE, FHWA, FWS, USDA-Forest Service, Maryland State Highway Administration, and the West Virginia Department of Highways.

Don’t miss this historic event! Early bird registration fee is $175. Click here for more information and to register for the conference.

Modeling Impacts on Climate Change in the Chesapeake Bay Region

Working in partnership with the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration, National Geographic and a host of other partners, The Conservation Leadership Network will be holding a workshop in the fourth quarter of 2009 on Climate Change and Green Infrastructure in the Chesapeake Region.

Green infrastructure is defined as a strategically planned and managed network of natural lands, working landscapes, and other open spaces that conserve ecosystem values and functions and provide associated benefits to human populations. Green infrastructure planning provides an excellent context in which to discuss climate change and its impacts on both the natural and built environment.

Participants in this workshop will explore how their network designs are impacted vis-à-vis various sea-level rises. A design team for this workshop will be formed in the New Year. Visit this page again for further details!
