Chesapeake Forest Conservation Summit

Advancing Local and Regional Collaboration for Forest Conservation

Chesapeake forestsThe Conservation Fund/CLN in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service, the Chesapeake Bay Program, the NPS Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance Program (RTCA), and the Pinchot Institute will be hosting more than 30 land trusts, government agencies and private forest landowners in the Chesapeake Region to structure and sustain a dialogue on forest conservation. The Chesapeake Forest Conservation Summit will be held May 29 – 30, 2008, at the National Conservation Training Center (NCTC) in Shepherdstown, West Virginia.

The focus of the Summit will be to explore strategies for advancing local and regional collaboration on forest conservation. With the impetus of the recently released Forest Directive 06-1 and the publication of the State of the Chesapeake Forests report published last year, participants will brainstorm how to better use our scarce resources, communicate local and regional priorities, and develop better mechanisms for working together and stimulating future collaboration.
