Racing for Wildlife
Introducing New Fans to the Outdoors.
The Conservation Fund and NASCAR driver Ryan Newman have joined forces to launch Racing for Wildlife, an exciting initiative that will protect recreation lands where kids and their families can experience the outdoors. This month, Racing for Wildlife announced its first project - the restoration of the historic Mill Lake Youth Camp in Southern Michigan. Located on a scenic lake that offers excellent recreation and fishing, the camp, when re-opened, will provide outdoor education for youth and families. Join us in making this priority conservation project a success.

Preserving the Ancient Past in Ohio

Spruce Hill Earthworks is a walled ceremonial site thought to have been built by the Hopewell culture nearly 2,000 years ago. Preservation groups in Ohio rescued the ancient earthwork site days before an auction that could have resulted in its destruction. With a $300,000 emergency loan from The Conservation Fund, the Archeological Conservancy is working with Highlands Sanctuary, Wilderness East and the Ross County Park District to raise $612,000 to buy Spruce Hill Earthworks and ensure this colorful cultural site atop a steep hill overlooking Central Ohio's scenic Paint Creek Valley, thrives.

Chimney Rock Park Acquired
Iconic tourist spot protected in Tar Heel State.
Chimney Rock  Deep in the heart of North Carolina, hikers disappear into another world—a world of waterfalls and rocky cliffs, wild birds, sweeping views and misty caves. It’s a world worth saving—and with The Conservation Fund’s assistance—the state of North Carolina has done just that. The state recently acquired Chimney Rock Park, a 996-acre property that has—for more than a century—been owned and operated as a private nature attraction by the Morse family.

Conservation Leadership Network Announces Fall Courses
Registration available online.
Conservation Leadership Network The Conservation Leadership Network is a strategic alliance of non-governmental and public and private sector partners dedicated to building the capacity of professionals and organizations involved in natural and cultural resource conservation. This fall, five courses will be offered, beginning with Strategic Conservation Planning Using a Green Infrastructure Approach, which takes place in Shepherdstown, WV from October 15-19. Other courses offered include Balancing Nature and Commerce in Communities that Neighbor Public Lands and GIS Tools for Strategic Conservation Planning. Registration deadlines begin September 14.
