Civil War Battlefield Conservation, LA

The Conservation Fund's Civil War Battlefield Campaign works in partnerships to protect our nation's hallowed ground, to provide comprehensive information on the 384 principal Civil War battlefields, designated by the Civil War Sites Advisory Commission, and to honor those that fought and died in the war.

The Campaign has, with its partners, protected historic sites in 73 projects in 13 states, protecting more than 8,100 acres.

Louisiana Battlefield Conservation Projects

Grant's Canal, LA

The Burney Long Family (RWB, Inc.) donated to the Fund the last remaining section of the canal constructed as part of the U.S. strategy to control the Mississippi River.   Read more>

Port Hudson, LA

The Fund purchased an historic 256-acre property, where African American troops made their first major assault in the Civil War, using its Battlefield Revolving Fund.  Read more>
