Civil War Battlefield Conservation, MS

The Conservation Fund's Civil War Battlefield Campaign works in partnerships to protect our nation's hallowed ground, to provide comprehensive information on the 384 principal Civil War battlefields, designated by the Civil War Sites Advisory Commission, and to honor those that fought and died in the war.

The Campaign has, with its partners, protected historic sites in 73 projects in 13 states, protecting more than 8,100 acres.

Mississippi Battlefield Conservation Projects

Big Black River Battlefield, MS

In partnership with the Mississippi Department of Archives and History and the Civil War Preservation Trust, the Fund acquired nearly 30 acres of the historic Big Black River Battlefield area.   Read more>

Champion Hill, MS

The Conservation Fund negotiated the purchase of an easement over 200 acres in the area of the Confederate retreat at Champion Hill.  Read more>

Corinth, MS

Battery F, protected through a partnership with Ringier America, National Geographic Society, and Mr. and Mrs. John L. Nau, III, was donated to the Friends of the Siege and Battle of Corinth.  Read more>

Port Gibson, MS

In partnership with the Civil War Preservation Trust, Mississippi Department of Archives and History, and National Park Service, the Fund secured a 623-acre conservation easement on important buffer lands in the Port Gibson Civil War Battlefield.   Read more>
