Red River National Wildlife Refuge

Creating America’s newest national wildlife refuge, Entergy Corporation, Environmental Synergy, Inc., the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and The Conservation Fund joined forces in a bold carbon sequestration project that addresses climate change and provides new wildlife habitat in northwestern Louisiana.

In 2004, the Fund safeguarded a mile of Red River frontage as well as 1,600 acres for the Red River National Wildlife Refuge, a valuable resting and feeding area for migratory waterfowl. Through its Carbon Sequestration Program, the Fund will restore more than 6,000 acres of bottomland hardwood forest here, which eventually will offset more than two million tons of carbon dioxide.
