Big Survey Wildlife Management Area, VA

To protect Big Survey in Virginia’s southwestern mountains, the Fund formed a wide-ranging partnership of state legislators, town and county officials, private landowners, and the Western Virginia Land Trust. Big Survey—at 8,300 acres, one of the largest tracts of unbroken, private forestland in Virginia—has provided outstanding recreation activities for generations of residents and visitors. Through state funding and the generosity of the landowners, the Fund helped transfer the property to the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries for long-term stewardship.
