Manchac Wildlife Management Area, LA

      

Accessible only by boat, the lowland marshes and spongy soils of Manchac Wildlife Management Area serve as a natural buffer between Lake Maurepas and Lake Pontchartrain in southeastern Louisiana. The Conservation Fund and its partners, supported by the Richard King Mellon Foundation, have protected more than 70,000 acres here, including 7,400 acres secured in 2005, which will link the Maurepas Swamp and Manchac wildlife management areas.
