Jean Baptiste Charbonneau, son of Lewis and Clark Expedition members Sacagawea and Touissant Charbonneau, was born mid-journey in 1805 and as an infant crossed the continent with the famed Corps of Discovery. The Fund negotiated the gift of Charbonneau’s gravesite from private landowners to Malheur County, ensuring its permanent protection.
