Monterey Clover

The Fund's Big River Forest is home to one of the rarest species in the north coast: the Monterey clover (Trifolium trichocalyx). This flower is classified as globally critically imperiled and both the state of California and the federal government list it as endangered. Not seen since 1995, and only found on the Monterey Peninsula, botanists Geri Hulse-Stephens and Kerry Heise found a patch on Big River in 2011. Learn more >>
